LANSDALE, PA — The historical importance of a Montgomery County park has been recognized at the federal level. The Peter Wentz Farmstead, an 18th century property located off of Shearer Road in Lansdale, was added to the National Underground Railroad Network this week, officials announced.

The historic site program, run by the National Park Service, connects 682 locations around the nation into a "mosaic of community, regional, and national stories." The sites include a wide variety of historical places, museums, and interpretative programs.

“The recognition of historic architecture such as the Peter Wentz Farmstead and the multisensory experience will help to educate future generations about Black history in our back yard and beyond,” Montgomery County Commissioner Ken Lawrence said in a statement.
