Montco Man Wielding Samurai Sword Shot, Killed By Police: DA
Police said the man with the sword charged at an officer when he arrived on the scene.
PENNSBURG, PA — A Montgomery County man was shot and killed by police after charging at an officer while wielding a Samurai sword Tuesday night.
The incident occurred at around 7:41 p.m. near 8th Street and Long Alley in Pennsburg.
Police were originally called to the scene by the family of Trey Bartholomew, 27, a resident of Valley Court, the District Attorney's Office said.

Family members told the 911 operator that Bartholomew was walking around with the sword and threatening to harm others, according to police.
When Upper Perkiomen police officers arrived on the scene with his vehicle lights on and sirens activated, Bartholomew charged, the DA's office said.

Three shots were fired, the preliminary investigation indicates, and Bartholomew was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS responders.
Montgomery County Detectives are investigating the case, as they do with all officer-involed shootings. The names of the officers involved were not released by authorities.
