North Penn Student Wins HS Regional Student TV Award

LANSDALE, PA — North Penn students have won a regional award for excellence in high school television production.

Student reporter and editor Mariam Akraz, advised by the district's coordinator of communications media Bob Gilmer, won an Award for Excellence from the National Academy for Television Arts and Sciences' Mid-Atlantic Chapter.

The clip, embedded below, dives into figure skating world, profiling national standout and fellow student Laine Dubin. It won the "General Assignment - Light News" category.

The win marks North Penn's 28th Award for Excellence from the Academy since 2003.

Dubin, a reporter herself, was nominated in the live sports coverage category for "In My Day I Had Swim Practice Outside In January."

Live coverage of the North Penn vs. Souderton basketball game was also nominated, recognizing the work of students Avery Downing (announcer), Asian Odom and Ayush Makadia (camera), Nick Polisi (director), and Tommy Samojlowitsch (technical director).
