Northeast Extension To Shut Down Overnight This Weekend In Montco

Watch out if driving late this weekend: a five-hour closure will be in place on the Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeast Extension.

PLYMOUTH MEETING, PA — The Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike will shut down overnight early Sunday morning as road work gets underway.

The work place take place on May 2 at the Exit 20 Mid County Interchange from 12:01 a.m. to 5 a.m., officials said.

The work includes pavement markings as travel lanes are reconfigured, and all-electronic tolling is installed at the interchange, according to PennDOT.

Motorists coming south will be detoured onto I-276 west, and will then be guided to the Norristown Interchange at Exit 333 where they have the option of returning to the Turnpike.

For those heading west on I-276, the closure will extend to the Exit 20 westbound ramp to I-476 south. Motorists there will also be directed to the Norristown Interchange to continue to I-476 SOUTH.

State Police and Turnpike personnel will be at the closure locations to help drivers.
