Police Accuse Lansdale Man of Defecating Inside of Jail Cell

Worthington was in jail for an alleged domestic incident at his West Third Street home

Lansdale Police charged a 39-year-old man with institutional vandalism after allegedly damaging a jail cell with his own feces.

Police accuse Robert Worthington of Lansdale of vandalizing the cell’s floor, wall, ceiling and a security camera with fecal matter. Police say it cost $100 for labor and supplies to clean the cell. According to police, officers first noticed the smell at 8:30 a.m. on March 29 when they approached the cell to transport Worthington to the Towamencin Township Police Department.

In the criminal complaint, police state that while reviewing the surveillance tapes, Worthington is seen banging on the camera and then sticking his hands in the toilet. From 3-3:35 am., police allege Worthington place feces throughout the cell, including the camera and ceiling.

Worthington, of the 800 block of West Third Street, was in the cell after being arrested after an alleged domestic disturbance earlier that morning at his residence.

He was charged for counts of endangering the welfare of children, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police were dispatched to Worthington’s residence twice. During the first visit police state they noticed extensive damage to property inside the residence, where his wife and three kids also live. Police left after they say an alleged intoxicated Worthington and his wife agreed that the husband would calm down and sleep on the couch. The wife also declined a Protection Abuse Order.

However, police indicate that they were called back to the residence soon after when the wife reported that Worthington continued to break property and forced his way into an upstairs bedroom, allegedly hitting his 8-year-old son with a door.

When police investigated the scene, they saw marijuana in the kitchen, and also saw drug paraphernalia in the basement, where Worthington was located when police arrived. According to police, a pipe was found in Worthington’s pants when he was searched.
