Politicians Participate In Diwali Ceremony
Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (8th District) and Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert, during Diwali Celebration At BAPs Swaminarayan Temple In Hatfield
Local dignitaries, Congressnan Brian Fitzpatrick, and Mayor Garry Herbert, were given a warm Diwali welcome at the BAPS Swaminarayan Hindu Temple in Hatfield. Diwali is the Hindu festival of light and signifies the victory of good over evil. Part of the celebration at the BAPS Temple is the Annakut or wall of sweets offered in devotional gratitude for the past year and as a way to seek blessings for the New Year ahead. The Annakut offering includes hundreds of items of food, snacks, sweets, pickles, spicy dishes, salads, fruit drinks and other items devotionally prepared by devotees.
Following the religious ceremony, the dignitaries were provided a homemade traditional Indian vegetarian meal.
