Proposed Six Story Apartment Building In Lansdale Moves Forward

Developers are hoping it will help "turn things around" in a "drug infested area" that formerly housed the Third and Walnut Street Bar.

LANSDALE, PA -- A six story apartment building proposed in downtown Lansdale is gaining public traction.

The building would be in the site of the former Third and Walnut Street bar, The Reporter said.

The developer, Harleysville dentist Ross Ziegler, said he hopes the building will be the greenest in the area,

“I’m picking an area in Lansdale that’s neglected, it’s drug infested, and I’m trying to turn things around. This project hits Walnut Street, the end of the block is Broad Street, and it hits Main Street. It’s got a good chance of being a catalyst to revitalize here,” he told The Reporter.

At a public meeting Tuesday night, developers reportedly said Lansdale residents were largely positive in response to the proposal. Their concerns focused on changing views of the surrounding area and whether or not the apartment would impose shadows on nearby residences and businesses.

However, that has not always been the chief concern. In November, some residents were very vocal about how bringing more people would bring more drugs and crime to an area that had been improved since the closure of the bar.

Officials have discussed renovating the area with various developments over the past two years, the report states.

The building would be set away from neighboring homes with a small park, and would also feature a green roof and underground stormwater cistern meant to recycle rain for irrigation, according to the report.

The plan will be discussed at upcoming meetings on February 3 and February 22, where developers hope the project will continue to move forward.
