Psst! Your Neighbors May Be Paying Less Rent

Those renting in Lansdale might want to take a look at what those around them are paying.

If you rent in the Lansdale area, you may be interested to know that your monthly rent might be higher than your neighbors.

A website called RichBlocksPoorBlocks.com has broken down these facts into a very digestable, detailed, yet understandable interactive map.

Do you want to know what the renters "next door" are paying? Do you need to beef up your negotiations with your landlord? This map can help.

As you can see from the image, those in Lansdale are fairly divided. According to the site, the map uses data from Census reports.

"All data comes from the 2007 to 2011 American Community Survey. The statewide middle range covers Census Tracts which have a median monthly rent higher than the lowest 40 percent - and lower than the highest 40 percent - of this state's Census Tracts," says the map's "disclaimer."

Those in the area of Hancock Park seem to top the charts. Average rents in the southeast portion of the borough pay around $878 per month. The area encompasses rentals from Route 63 to the park, and from Green Street to Maple Street.

Do you want to pay a little less? Those living in the area of the borough between Lansdale Avenue, above Main Street all the way to Lansdale Catholic, tend to pay slightly less. The average between Lansdale Avenue and Line Street pay around $793. 

Just a few blocks of difference can make a huge difference. That's $85 per month difference which occurrs just from crossing Main Street.

Who pays the least? Those that find rentals from Squirrel Lane to just below Cannon Avenue seem to find the best deals. Average rents there hover around $659 per month.
