Rittenhouse Road Will Be Shut Down Into 2020, Township Says
It was originally estimated it might take another 11 to 18 months to restore the damaged bridge. Here's what you need to know.

TOWAMENCIN TOWNSHIP, PA — Rittenhouse Road will remain closed through at least the spring of 2020, township officials said on Thursday.
The announcement comes following the second time in two months the bridge on the road was struck and significantly damaged.
The most recent damage to the bridge occurred on the morning of Friday, Sept. 20, when a vehicle smashed into a stone culvert at a high rate of speed.

A thorough investigation by structural engineers revealed the scope of the work needed to be completed. The stone culvert must be completely replaced.
It was originally estimated it might take another 11 to 18 months to restore the damaged bridge, but the township requested the Department of Environmental Protection issue an emergency permit, expediting the project to around six months, officials said.
