Hundreds Without Power, Roads Closed Around Lansdale, Hatfield

Update: downed trees and flooded roads have led to numerous closures around Lansdale, Hatfield, and the surrounding area Tuesday.

LANSDALE, PA — Numerous roads have been shut down around Lansdale, Hatfield, and the surrounding area Tuesday and hundreds are without power as heavy rain and winds from Tropical Storm Isais batter the region.

South Broad Street was shut down from Blaine Street to Whites Road shortly after 11:30 a.m., officials said. Main Street was also closed at North Wales Road at the same time. And shortly before noon, South Valley Forge Road was closed between Delaware Avenue and York Avenue.

Meanwhile, in Hatfield, East Broad Street has been closed from Main to Market, East Lincoln Avenue is closed from Main to Market, and Towamencin Avenue is closed from Edgewood Drive to South Wayne Avenue.

Roadways and bridges, like Towamencin's Rittenhouse Road bridge, have been completely covered by floodwaters, creating significant danger for local motorists. Residents are urged to stay home and off the roads if at all possible. Allentown Road in Towamencin was closed between Forty Food Road and Reinert Road at 12:30 p.m.

Severe roadway flooding has also impacted Bethlehem Pike, Walnut Street, and Lenhart Road in the Hatfield Township and Hatfield Borough area.

Police in many municipalities have reiterated the message to turn around if you see standing water in the road, and to never drive around barricades.

Outages have impacted more than 22,000 in Montgomery County, including 201 in Montgomery Township, 169 in Lansdale, 1,180 in Hatfield, and 592 in Upper Gwynedd, as of noon.

In addition to significant flooding, the storm has brought down trees and wires around the area and throughout Montgomery County.

Other closures nearby including a portion of North Wales Road in East Norriton, Route 73 and 113 in Skippack, and Main Street in Harleysville between Oak Drive and Kulp Road.
