Services Set For Lansdale's Amie Harwick, Hollywood Therapist

A memorial service for Lansdale native Amie Harwick, a therapist and author killed in her Hollywood home, will be held this week.

LANSDALE, PA — Amie Harwick, the Lansdale native, therapist, writer, and public figure, who was killed by her ex-boyfriend earlier this month, will be remembered at a funeral service in her hometown later this week. She was 38.

Harwick was a 1999 graduate of North Penn High School who went on to earn an MA in clinical psychology from Pepperdine University, and later a PhD in human sexuality. A Renaissance woman, her interests ranged from marriage and sex therapy to personal training and even heavy metal music, her obituary notes.

Harwick became well-known as a therapist in Hollywood over the years. She was engaged for a time to comedian Drew Carey, who called her a "beautiful person" in a podcast interview after the news broke.

"I hope you're lucky enough to have someone in your life that loves as much as she did," Carey tweeted, including a video clip of the couple.

Police said that she was killed by an ex-boyfriend who had stalked her for years. The man was arrested and charged shortly after Harwick's death on Feb. 15.

"She loved horror movies, collecting taxidermy, and many objects in formaldehyde jars," her obituary notes. "Amie was quirky and fun. The camera loved her, and she was becoming a photographer herself. Amie loved her family. Her favorite visit every year was the annual “CBD” (cookie baking day) when she could see all of her cousins, aunt, parents, brother, nieces, and nephews."

A memorial will be held on Thursday, Feb. 27 at Huff and Lakjer Funeral Home on 701 Derstine Ave.

The borough noted that residents should expected increased traffic, as a significant presence is expected at her funeral. The areas of South Cannon Avenue and Derstine Avenue will be busy Thursday morning.

Relatives and friends are invited to arrive between 9:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Thursday. A funeral service will take place at 11:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Ambler.
