Souderton Shot Putter's Toss Puts Her In Elite Company
Souderton's Maria Deaviz recent season opening throw is among the best in Pennsylvania state indoor track and field history.

SOUDERTON, PA — Souderton Area High School's Maria Deaviz recent season opening throw is among the best in Pennsylvania state indoor track and field history.
The senior put on an impressive display at a season-opening Delaware Valley Track Coaches Association meet on Dec. 13 at Lehigh University's Rauch Fieldhouse.
Deaviz's toss of 47 feet, 10.75 inches not only won the meet, but it puts her as the early state leader in Pennsylvania.

However, it's also good enough to be among the best shot put tosses in Pennsylvania indoor track and field history. It ranks as the fifth farthest toss indoors, according to athletics results compiler MileSplit.
That 47-10.75 toss would have been good enough to win the 2019 indoor state championships, which were won with a 47-05.50 throw. Deaviz, as a junior, placed fifth with a throw of 42-06.25 in that meet last year.
