State Champ Souderton HS Baseball Team Honored On PA House Floor

Lawmakers recognized members of the state champion Souderton Area High School baseball team on the floor of the state legislature.

SOUDERTON, PA — Lawmakers recognized members of the state champion Souderton Area High School baseball team on the floor of the state legislature this week.

The team was was given citations from both the House and the Senate in honor of their PIAA 6A state championship title. The won the championship game over Central Bucks South, 6-3, on June 14.

“This outstanding group of athletes had an amazing season,” said State Rep. Marcy Toepel (R-Montgomery). "Each of the players, as well as the coaching staff, are to be commended for the hard work and dedication it took to win the state title."

Rep. Steven Malagari (D-Montgomery), Sen. Bob Mensch (R- Berks/Bucks/Montgomery), and Sen. Maria Collett (D-Bucks/Montgomery) were also on hand to commend the program.

It was the first state championship victory for Souderton baseball.

Souderton won the Suburban One League Continental Conference during the regular season, never losing to a conference opponent and finishing up with a stellar 24-4 record.

The team then cruised through the opening rounds of the playoffs, defeating La Salle 7-1 and Plymouth Whitemarsh 11-1, before battling back a tough Neshaminy team, 3-0, in the semifinal.

Heading into the bottom of the fifth innning of the championship game with Central Bucks, Souderton trailed, 3-0. However, they rallied for three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth en-route to their come from behind victory.
