Suburban One League Approves Delayed Winter Sports Season

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — The Suburban One League is moving ahead with a winter sports season.

The local high school athletic conference, which includes numerous schools in Montgomery and Bucks counties, recently approved a delayed start to the 2020-21 season.

"The Suburban One League is committed to the health and safety of all our student-athletes, coaches, and spectators," the league's executive committee said in a statement. "The Board recognizes that the challenges presented by the COVID -19 pandemic affect each of our member schools differently and that their responses to it are guided by the needs of their respective communities."

Competition may begin on Dec. 22 for teams which wish to participate in non-league games or meets. Inter-conference competition will begin on Jan. 11, 2021.

In the meantime, practices were permitted to begin Nov. 23.

Of course, some individual schools have decided not to participate in athletics, while others may still implement further restrictions. School districts will make their own decisions on how many home spectators are allowed for home meets or games. No away spectators are permitted.

The Suburban One League includes Abington, Bensalem, Central Bucks East, Central Bucks South, Central Bucks West, Cheltenham, Council Rock North, Council Rock South, Harry S. Truman, Hatboro-Horsham, Neshaminy, North Penn, Pennridge, Pennsbury, Plymouth-Whitemarsh, Quakertown, Souderton, Springfield, Upper Dublin, Upper Moreland, William Tennent, Wissahickon, Lower Moreland, and New Hope-Solebury.
