Towamencin Gets $1.8 Million To Widen Forty Foot Road

Officials are hopeful that a pair of new grants will help them significantly improve traffic in the area.

TOWAMENCIN, PA — Officials have announced significant funding for vital road construction project which aims to significantly reduce traffic in the Towamencin area.

A pair of grants have been awarded to Towamencin Township to widen Forty Foot Road. It's just the latest funding which state and local officials have secured to help improve an area of congestion which has been problematic for years.

The pair PennDOT Multimodal Transportation grants will help create a five-lane section of roadway along a 1.7 mile stretch of Forty Foot Road, State Sen. Bob Mensch (R-24) announced.

The stretch of road which will be widened runs from the intersection with Welsh Road in Hatfield Township to Sumneytown Pike in Towamencin.

“I am happy to have advocated and be a strong supporter of this project, as it is a significant improvement to Towamencin Township,” Mensch said in a statement. “I look forward to seeing the completed project and the notable improvements of traffic patterns that will come with from it.”

A formal groundbreaking event celebrating the funding and project a held last week in Towamencin with Mensch, Towamencin Township Manager Robert Ford, Police Chief Timothy Dickinson, and other area leaders.

Officials are hopeful the project will also be beneficial to the Towamencin Village Shopping Center revitalization project.
