Towamencin Police Investigating Vehicle Accident at Gulf Station

Pickup truck driver suffered minor injuries after crashing into pumps, which were pushed into another vehicle.

The Towamencin Township Police department is investigating a vehicle accident that damaged gasoline pumps at Ed’s Gulf Station on Sumneytown Pike and another vehicle.

Police say on March 26 at 7:15 a.m., a 2005 Dodge Ram series 1500 pickup truck, driven by Charles Dement, 50, of Claymont, Del., collided with the guardrail along the eastbound shoulder after exiting the turnpike.

According to the report, Dement continued eastbound along the shoulder of Sumneytown Pike when he traveled up the embankment of the Gulf station, and continued across the lot where he collided with the first row of pumps.

The pumps, which were closest to the pike, became dislodged and were pushed into a 2013 Toyota Prius that was being fueled at the pump island. There was no fire despite the pumps being dislodged.

The driver of the Toyota was outside of his vehicle, but two juvenile passengers, a 3-year-old and a 5-month old, were inside. No were no reported injuries to the driver or the children.

Dement was transported to Abington-Lansdale Hospital with minor injuries. The Towamencin Volunteer Fire Company and Special Fire Police, along with Harleysville Special Fire Police, responded to the scene since gasoline pumps were disrupted.

No charges have been filed with the investigation still ongoing.
