TOWAMENCIN, PA — An elderly resident in Towamencin is not letting the coronavirus crisis stop her from contributing to her community.

Dot Walsh, a resident at the Landing of Towamencin, has been working to make more than 100 fleece-tied blankets for children in need.

“This is my therapy,” Walsh said. “I took care of my husband for years, and suddenly became a single lady, so this is my therapy. I get as much out of this as the kids will.”

The blankets are part of Project Linus, an organization which works to provide comfort and security to children who are sick or needy.

“What Dot did helps us support the larger community, and connects us,” Chrissy Pappas, the leisure care programs director at the Landing at Towamencin. “It’s inspirational to me to know that even during a pandemic, there are important and worthy things we can do. It bridges generations together, and we need more of that these days.”

Project Linus will distribute the blankets to places like hospitals, shelters, social service groups, and more.

“It gives me purpose; it feels good to know I can make something to help someone else,” Walsh added.
