2 Evans Teachers Earn Highest Certification

The National Board Certified Teacher designation is a very difficult credential to obtain.

Two Evans Elementary educators have recently earned the highest credential available to American educators by recently becoming National Board Certified Teachers through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).

Second-grade teacher Susan Mercer and third-grade educator Arlene Reagan join only 1,043 other Pennsylvania teachers who have achieved this distinction. Mercer and Reagan received the impressive designation from the NBPTS after completing a series of projects and assessments over the course of several months. Those projects included 10 assessments, four portfolio entries and six response exercises that were designed to test Mercer and Reagan’s instructional abilities and aptitude.

The National Board Certified Teacher status is an optional advanced credential for educators, which complements Pennsylvania’s existing teaching certifications.

Superintendent of Schools Dr. David Goodin commended the teachers for their accomplishments, explaining that becoming a National Board Certified Teacher is one of the most thorough and in-depth certification processes in education.

“These teachers showed determination and a genuinely love for their profession,” Goodin said. “It is a truly impressive accomplishment that Ms. Mercer and Ms. Reagan achieved.”
