New Track Access Policy Introduced by District

The new policy applies to the running track at the 9th Grade Center.

[Editor's note: An earlier version of this article included information on the cost of a runner's card that was present in a previous version of the policy. The policy as passed last night no longer has that cost.]

At Monday's meeting, the Spring-Ford Area School Board approved a policy that lays out new rules for community use of the running track at the 9th Grade Center.

The district has installed a runner's gate at the track and district residents will be required to obtain an identification card at the district office to gain access.

Superintendent Dr. David Goodin said at last week's meeting that the new policy is to assure the safety and security of the students and the school grounds.

"No one can use the track while the students are out there," Goodin said.

Otherwise, the track will be open from dawn to dusk seven days a week. Residents can run on lanes 4-6 of the track only.

The identification card will be a magnetic swipe card that allows access via the runner's gate. To obtain a card, a resident must have a photo ID that shows their current address. Residents can visit the distrct office Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to apply for a card.

There will be no charge for the card or track access unless the resident loses the swipe card. The charge for a lost card will be $20.

Residents with questions about the new policy can contact the district office at 610-705-6000.
