Don't Close the Pottstown YMCA

Joe Ciresi, candidate for state rep in the 146th, calls on the community to help save the Y

The Pottstown YMCA is one of those local institutions that binds the neighborhood together. Children and youth rely on the Y's after school activities, while adults appreciate its social and health benefits. My son, Danny, learned how to swim at the Pottstown Y.

It is imperative that the announced closure of the Pottstown Y by the Philadelphia-based Freedom Valley YMCA be revisited and the decision reversed. The ongoing educational support for our area children, especially the youngest and most vulnerable, has been a top priority of mine for many years. We as a community need to do whatever is possible to retain the Pottstown YMCA facility.
