Electronic Recycling Coming to Limerick Area

As posted on the Limerick Patch calendar, St. Philip Neri Church will hold an e-cycling event March 16, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the church premises, located at 1325 Klinerd Road in Pennsburg.

According to a press release on the event, all materials collected will be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner, and, for security purposes, all media data that is collected will be destroyed.

Organizations and local municipalities are working with eForce Compliance, a dual certified electronic recycler, based in Philadelphia. The company’s co-founder Charles Nygard told Patch that nearly all electonic deveices contain potentially hazardous heavy metal, which make putting them in landfills undesirable and potentially dangerous to the environment.

Furthermore, the state passed earlier this year the Covered Device Recycling Act, which requires residents and businesses to properly dispose of their electronic devices, a part from their regular trash pickup.

According to the release, the March 16 event will accept “Anything with a Plug,” including most small electronic items, but not larger appliances, such as refrigerators, washers and dryers.

According to a flyer from Montgomery County’s 2012 schedule of electronic collection program events, items that would be accepted at electronic collection events include, but are not limited to:

• Printers
• Scanners
• Fax Machines
• Keyboards
• VCRs/DVD players
• Cable/Satellite Recievers
• Cell Phones
• Stereo and Radio equipment
• Microwaves
• Vaccuums
• Other small household appliances
