With Fourth of July just around the corner and the recent changes to Pennsylvania law, the Limerick Fire Company wants to remind township residents that fireworks require a permit in the township. This process must go through the Township Fire Marshal’s Office and review time is 30 days for these permits.
The main reason for this process is safety. According to the National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA), nationwide 47% of fires reported on July 4th are caused by fireworks. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reports that in 2014, 35% of all fireworks injuries were to children under 15 years of age. If you think sparklers are the safe alternative, guess again. The same report states that almost 20% of the fireworks injuries seen nationwide were caused by sparklers, which makes them the most dangerous firework available, often because they are given to young children who are burned.
The Limerick Fire Company encourages you to have a great holiday season and come out to the only approved public fireworks display and private event in the township on July 4th at Turtle Creek Golf Course & Waltz’s Golf Farm, located at 303 W. Ridge Pike in Limerick. There will be food trucks there at 6pm, live music, and all the great fun available at the golf farm daily. It is also an opportunity for the public to meet your local area firefighters, who will be selling hot dogs and hamburgers during the event. In addition, first responders from out surrounding mutual aid companies who will be out standing by to ensure fire safety. Just a reminder that there are no fireworks permitted on the site at Waltz Golf Course.
