Limerick Nuclear Plant Completes Refueling

The plant's Unit 2 system was restored to full power on Monday night.

According to a press release from Exelon's Limerick Gerenating Station, Limerick's Unit 2 was returned to full power on Monday night following an almost one-month refueling outage.

Dana Melia, Exelon communications manager, says in the press release that nearly one third of the reactor's fuel was replaced, and the employees performed thousands of inspections, upgrades and maintenance activities that can only be done when the unit is offline.

The refueling outage also brought a boost to the local economy in the form of 2,000 temporary employees - many from local union halls - that were brought in to assist with the process.
