Montgomery Co. Man Used Company Credit Card 1,800 Times: Feds

A Montgomery County man made some 1,800 personal purchases using his company's credit card, stealing hundreds of thousands, officials said.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, PA — A Pottstown man and local accountant was sentenced to prison this week after using his company credit cards more than 1,800 times, stealing hundreds of thousands, the U.S. Attorney's Office announced.

Matthew Chancler, 57, will spend 18 months in prison on charges of wire fraud, U.S. District Court Judge Michael Baylson ruled.

Chancler was a certified public accountant and director of finance at United Chemical Technologies, a company located in Bristol in Bucks County.

Beginning in Aug. 2016 and continuing through July 2018, Chancler used his position overseeing all of the company's financial transactions to make thousands of personal purchases on company credit cards, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

All told, he made more than 1,800 personal purchases and 400 cash withdrawals, stealing more than $360,000 from the company, according to authorities.

According to the U.S. Attorney, the purchases "put the company in financial jeopardy."

The case was prosecuted by Deputy U.S. Attorney Louis D. Lappen.
