Nuclear Plant Employee Found to Have Alcohol in System
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission's program of random drug and alcohol testing discovered the employee's violation of the plant's drug policy.

An unnamed supervisor at the Exelon Limerick Generating Station tested postitive for alcohol use during a random substance test on Tuesday, according to a story in the Times Herald. The employee, who is in a supervisory role but does not work in the control room area of the plant, was restricted from duty.
“On April 24, 2013, a Limerick employee was immediately removed from duty after reporting to work and testing positive during a random alcohol screening. The worker did not access vital areas of the plant and at no point was the safety or security of the facility impacted,” Dana Melia, plant communications director, wrote in response to a Pottstown Mercury email seeking comment.
Exelon conducts rigorous Fitness for Duty tests which include random drug tests, psychological evaluations and background checks. Random drug tests are performed at plants to ensure that employees in all areas of the plant, including critical operations areas, are not under the influence.
