Royersford Library Getting Ready for Month-Long Celebration
The library is gearing up to celebrate Family Reading Month, featuring the 2013 PA One Book campaign and National Library Week Festivities.

Families can expect a lot of activity taking place at the Royersford Free Public Library next month.
“April is a huge month here,” Nancy Niggel, the library’s Children’s librarian, said in an e-mail to Patch.
According to Niggel, the Royersford Library, located at 200 S. Fourth Ave. in Royersford, will celebrate its annual Family Reading Month. In a press release about the Family Reading Month, Niggel explained that there are three highlights that families should especially be on the look out for during the month-long celebration:

2013 PA One Book Campaign
- Each year Pennsylvania chooses one book to highlight the importance of early literacy skills for children. This year’s title is "The Bus for Us," by Suzanne Bloom. Early literacy begins at home because parents are children’s first teachers. Through singing, talking, reading, writing, and playing with children, as often as possible, adults make sure children are ready for school and learning. Families who visit the library in April will enjoy "The Bus for Us" along with related activities, story-stretchers, crafts, puppets, and games. By the end of April they will see how easy it is to develop early literacy skills at home using their children’s favorite stories. Royersford Free Public Library is a partner with parents in developing early literacy skills in children.

National Library Week Festivities
- National Library Week will be celebrated from April 14 – 20. This year’s theme is Communities Matter @ Your Library. There is always something great happening at the library and National Library Week is a perfect time to visit and see what’s up at the library for you. Events will include a jeans pocket decorating class for students in grades 1 to 12, vegetable gardening and herb growing classes for adults and teens, Makin’Music music and movement programs for children, adult book discussions, an introduction to Reiki massage for adults, and an evening show with Mr. David’s Drawings and Songs for families – with a sweet ice cream sundae ending!
PA Forward Initiative
- PA Forward is an initiative of the Pennsylvania Library Association and it also highlights the unique role public libraries play in people’s lives. Through PA Forward libraries across the state seek to empower people with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed. PA Forward recognizes the library’s role in the community through five essential literacy foundations that help people succeed as citizens, parents, students, employees, and consumers. They are Basic Literacy, Information Literacy, Civic and Social Literacy, Health Literacy, and Financial Literacy. Libraries can help solve some of Pennsylvania’s biggest economic and social challenges; thus ensuring that communities matter. Whether you are seeking medical information, applying for a job, browsing for a new author, bringing your children to story time, enjoying low cost recreation, or endeavoring in lifelong learning, the library has something for you.
