Royersford Police Chief to Retire June 1

Chief Kevin Schurr has been with the department for 32 years.

At Tuesday's Royersford Borough Council meeting, public safety committee chairman Bruce Buckwalter announced that police chief Kevin Schurr had tendered his resignation for the purpose of retirement, effective June 1.

Schurr, who has been a member of the department for 32 years, was not present at the meeting.

Council voted to accept the resignation "with regret."

Corporal Thomas Nerlinger has been the officer-in-charge for a few months while Schurr dealt with some medical issues, and will continue to lead the department until a new chief is appointed to take Schurr's place.

"He's [Schurr] done a good job," said council president Thomas Weikel. "He worked his way up through the ranks, started as a patrolman."

Weikel said that council has only known about the resignation for a few days and as yet, doesn't have a process in place to choose a new chief.

"Chief Schurr will be sorely missed," Weikel said.
