Royersford Woman Gets 3D Printed Hair Piece After Cancer

A unique new 3D printing technology helped a Royersford woman replace her hair after recovering from cancer.

ROYERSFORD, PA -- One Royersford woman who suffered from a serious disease that caused hair loss is the beneficiary of a fascinating new technology.

Diane Mastromatto had skin cancer on her head, and suffered from scarring alopecia, resulting in hair loss, after her treatment.

That's when Transition Hair Solutions stepped in: using 3D printing technology, they made an exact replica of her scalp, down to hair color, texture, and pattern.

Danielle Grillo of Transition Hair does the measurements at the business' headquarters in New Jersey. She then ships the package off to Italy, where a 3D printer produces the design.

"Most people who wear one of the pieces call it a second skin. They’re finally able to live an active lifestyle without worrying about their hair loss," organizers said.
