Macungie Woman Killed in Train Collision Identified
The woman killed in a train crash Jan. 16 was a nurse practitioner.

The woman who was struck and killed by a train in Macungie on Friday, Jan. 16, has been identified, authorities said.
The woman, identified as Carol J. Midei, 64, of Macungie, was a nurse practitioner who worked at Ephrata Community Hospital in Lancaster County, where she was also a teacher, according to The Morning Call.
Midei was a Board Certified Heart Failure nurse practitioner, whose work brought her to a number of hospitals around the region, including being a critical care nurse at Lehigh Valley Hospital and a coronary care manager at Sacred Heart Hospital, according to her obituary in The Morning Call. Her teaching career brought her to a number of locations, as well, including lecturing at Ephrata Community Hospital, Cedar Crest College, St. Luke’s School of Nursing, Kaplan and Northampton Community College.

A train collided with Midei’s vehicle, killing her, shortly after 6:30 p.m. on Friday. She accidentally turned from the Main Street crossing onto the railroad tracks and her sport utility vehicle got stuck, The Morning Call reported.
