Ray. R. Bast Dies at 88, World War II Navy Veteran

Ray R. Bast of Macungie died March 11 in the Lehigh Center.

Ray R. Bast, 88, of Macungie, died March 11, 2013, of natural causes in Lehigh Center, Macungie.

He was the husband of Joan M. (Bard) Bast.

Born in Kutztown he was a son of the late George and Mamie (Smith) Bast.

He was a 1942 graduate of Kutztown High School, and a 1950 graduate with honors from Lehigh University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

He was a Veteran of WWII having served in the Navy.

He was a member of St. Paul’s UCC, Kutztown.

Ray was employed by Public Service Electric and Gas Co. in New Jersey for 38 years, retiring as General Manager.

He was an avid hunter and golfer.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons: Roger (Fran) Bast, Quakertown, Steven (Susan) Bast, Overland Park, KS, and Gary (Debbie) Bast, Allentown; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren also survive.

He was predeceased by his siblings: Dorothy Fenstermaker, Jane Ferguson, and Carl Bast.

Private graveside services at Fairview Cemetery, Kutztown.

The Edward J. Hildenbrand Funeral Home, Inc., Kutztown has charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Paul’s UCC, 47-51 Whiteoak St., Kutztown, PA  19530.
