When and how did your business get started?
In 1977 I lived in Old Allentown and began "de-converting" my own home from apartments to the original single-family design. At that time, historic renovations were in full swing.
As neighbors saw my work--which was showcased on the 1979 Old Allentown Historic House Tour and in The Doors of Allentown calendar--they came to me for advice and help with their own homes.
Not only did I complete restoration projects for others, but also sourced and used original architectural elements. When they could not be found, I fabricated what was needed. This hands-on experience yielded a successful business startup.
Why did you choose the town you did to open your business?
My wife and I both are natives of Lower Macungie Township, and we built a new home here in 2000. The township's growth has helped expand our business with new, old, and historic projects close by.
What is your business best known for?
We are best known for our broad expertise, which enables to offer high quality services in all phases of residential renovation. We can successfully meet any challenge a homeowner encounters--from a leaky faucet; stained or damaged drywall; to a major basement, kitchen or bath renovation. As accomplished painters, we work on both interior and exterior projects.
Our company mission is simple: to complete a quality project, at a fair price, which makes our clients happy, and willing to refer us to others. That means using the best of materials and suppliers, and being meticulous about the details.
What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know?
To put myself through engineering school, I began a construction apprenticeship and worked with an Austrian master plasterer named Oscar. At this time, drywall had just been introduced. My mentor taught me the Old World method of plastering, which I applied to drywall as a spackling technique. He told me that if I learned properly, people would seek me out just to spackle and finish. Oscar was right!
