BCCC Gets $350K Grant from National Science Foundation

The money will be used to build a dedicated high-speed data network to support science and technology research and education.

Bucks County Community College has been awarded a nearly $350,000 grant from the National Science Foundation to build a dedicated high-speed data network to support science and technology research and education, college officials announced Friday

The two-year project will upgrade the technology network used in the new Science Center under construction on the Newtown campus, the college said.

The two-story, 38,000-square-foot building, scheduled to open in December 2016, will house laboratories for college’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) department.

“The goals of this project are to upgrade our cyberinfrastructure to support STEM and other research on campus by faculty and students involving the movement of large data through the network,” said Andrew Lawlor, Vice President and Chief Information Officer.

“The resulting dedicated network will prioritize data transfers among systems located at Bucks, add a high-performance WiFi network extension, and provide Internet2 to support faculty and student research through the statewide education network.”
