Bucks County Teen Competing in National Spelling Bee

A Perkasie teen is competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which begins Wednesday in Washington, D.C.
Bill Jerdan, a Pennridge Central Middle School seventh grader, has competed in the regional bee for the past four years. This is his first national spelling bee, his bio says.
According to his bio, Bill, 13, enjoys reading, writing stories and playing Nintendo. He plays trumpet, guitar, violin and flugelhorn. He also plays baseball and is active in his church youth group.

“After coming in fourth, third and second place at the regional bee over the past four years, Bill is excited to finally be in Washington, D.C., for the Scripps National Spelling Bee,” his bio says.
Preliminaries are Wednesday. Competition semifinals are Thursday, with a championship final on Thursday night.

The semifinals will be aired live on ESPN2; the finals will be aired live on ESPN starting at 8 p.m. on Thursday.
