Contractor Scammed 7 Homeowners In Lower Bucks: Police

LOWER SOUTHAMPTON, PA — Police in Lower Bucks County are looking for a man they say ripped off at least seven customers who hired him for construction projects on their homes.

John McDevitt, 48, is charged with home improvement fraud, theft by deception, deceptive business practices and receiving stolen property by the Lower Southampton Township Police Department.

Police say that, in March 2020, they received a report that McDevitt, owner of McDevitt Construction and Design of Philadelphia, entered into a contract with a resident. He was paid for the work, then failed to complete the contracted construction work, police say.

During their investigation, police say, they learned that six other customers signed contracts with McDevitt Construction, made payments, then never got the work done that they had paid for.

Police in Lower Southampton have a warrant for McDevitt's arrest. Anyone with information on his whereabouts, or who believes they have similarly been scammed by him or his company, is encourated to contact Detective Stephen Brookes at 215-357-1235, Ext. 339 or SBrookes@lstwp.org.
