Did You Buy Frozen Spinach At Wegmans In Pennsylvania? There's A Recall

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is recalling thousands of packages of frozen spinach because of a possible listeria contamination.

The company is recalling about 12,540 packages of Wegmans Organic Food You Feel Good About Just Picked Frozen Spinach because of possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to a news release posted on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.

Wemans is located in three local communities -- Montgomeryville Mall in North Wales, King of Prussia, and Warrington.

In a separate announcement, Amy’s Kitchen, Inc., said it is recalling products that contain spinach because of possible Listeria monocytogenes.

In a news release, Amy’s said one of its organic spinach suppliers had notified the company about the possible contamination.

Wegmans said its spinach came from Washington-based Twin City Foods. Amy’s did not name its supplier, so it is unclear if the spinach came from the same company.

According to the Wegmans news release:

The 12-ounce packages were sold in the company’s stores in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland and Massachusetts between Jan. 27 and Saturday.

Packages that contain the following codes are affected:

Amy’s said its products were distributed to stores across the country and in Canada.

A full list of the recalled Amy’s products, which includes spinach pizza and vegetable lasagna, is available on the FDA website.

Listeria monocytogenes can cause mild illness or a severe illness that could be deadly.

Both companies said no illness have been reported so far, but young children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women are most at risk. Listeria infections can cause fevers, stiffness, headaches, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, miscarriages and stillbirths, according to the news release from Amy’s.

Wegmans customers can bring the spinach packages to the store for a full refund. Anyone with questions can call the Wegmans consumer affairs department at 1-855-934-3663.
