Delco 2019 Festival of Lights: What You Need To Know

MEDIA, PA — Rose Tree Park in Media will be alight with holiday lights as the 2019 Festival of Lights kicks off Dec. 6.

Santa Claus will join Delaware County Council, the Delaware County Department of Parks and Recreation, and hundreds of residents to celebrate the opening of the 2019 Festival of Lights at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 in Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Road in Media

The Festival of Lights opens to the public with a ceremony and tree lighting celebration featuring a welcome from Delaware County Council, a mini holiday concert by the Springton Lake Middle School Select Choir and the arrival of Santa.

"Delaware County Council is once again thrilled to present the Festival of Lights for the enjoyment of our residents," said Delaware County Council Chairman John McBlain. "The Festival of Lights has been a holiday tradition for many residents of all ages across the county throughout the years."

Delaware County’s Festival of Lights has been a treasured tradition for more than four decades.

The tradition began in 1976 as part of festivities planned to celebrate the nation’s Bicentennial.

The Festival has grown to 75 decorated trees strung with 100,000 holiday lights, and dozens of hand-painted wooden figures, including toy soldiers, a snowman family and a replica of the Delaware County Courthouse.

Complimentary cocoa and coffee will be provided courtesy of Acme Markets.

"We’re grateful to host this wonderful event in Rose Tree Park," said Director of Delaware
County Parks and Recreation, Marc Manfre. "It’s a community favorite, and residents of all ages love it. It’s a great way to get into the holiday spirit."

Following the opening night ceremony, the displays will be lit nightly from 5:30 p.m to 9:30p.m. through Jan. 5.
