Delco Barber Shop No Longer Reopening, Holds Protest Instead
Giovanni's in Media was to reopen despite the state's order, but owner Nichole Missino said her certificates and licenses were threatened.
MEDIA, PA — After initially planning to reopen in the face of Gov. Tom Wolf, a Delaware County barber shop had decided to stay closed.
Nichole Missino, owner of Giovanni's barbershop in Media, had planned to reopen her business May 9.
She was concerned over her and her workers' ability to support themselves and their families after being closed by the state's order in mid March.

Now, Missino has backed off that decision, saying while "the powers that be have won this battle, the war is far from over."
"Now, they have threatened our occupancy certificate and our licenses," a post on Giovanni's Facebook page reads. "State officials were fully prepared to involve law enforcement and forcefully remove us from our location and revoke all of our state licenses pertaining to barbering and cosmetology. We have been told that if we provide just one service, it could prevent our staff from legally cutting hair in the state of Pennsylvania ever again."

Missino instead held a protest Saturday morning.
"This isn't about the virus anymore," the post reads. "It's about survival, and our voices need to be heard."
