Delco Honors 9/11 Responders, Victims At Remembrance Ceremony

Additionally, three Delaware County emergency responders earned Orders of Merit from the district attorney's office.

MEDIA, PA – Delaware County officials honored the responders who ran toward danger and those who died on Sept. 11, 2001 Monday at its annual September 11th Remembrance Ceremony.

Officials gathered at Rose Tree Park in Media to lay wreaths in honor of police, firefighters, first responders, and for victims of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

During the ceremony the District Attorney’s Order of Merit was presented to Delaware County Sergeant Nicolas Maraini, who was injured in the line of duty on Aug. 9 when a suspect threw an explosive at him, causing second and third degree burns.

Crozer EMS Paramedic Kelly McDonald and EMT Brandon Smith were awarded the District Attorney’s Order of Merit for Bravery for their heroic actions. In August 2016 they were the first to respond to a fire in Upland and rescued a woman trapped on the 2nd floor.
