Delco Under Excessive Heat Watch Through Tuesday Evening

Seniors, young children, and those with heart and lung conditions should limit their outdoor exposure during the heat watch.

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA —Delaware County is under an Excessive Heat Watch through Tuesday evening, according to the county.

The county issued the Excessive Heat Watch through 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Temperatures are forecasted to be in the 90s through Wednesday, but will feel like 100 degrees or higher, the county said.

Seniors, young children, and those with heart and lung conditions should limit exposure outdoors during the heat watch.

Residents should also take the time to check in on any at-risk, elderly loved ones, and neighbors.

A 24-hour Emergency Heat Information Line is now active through Sept. 30 and available at 610-872-1558. The line will provide weekly heat safety tips and reminders, emergency information, and locations where people can seek relief from the heat.

Cooling fans, home checks on vulnerable residents, access to transportation, and other resources are also available to residents during extreme temperatures.

Air-conditioned senior centers typically have extended hours during a heatwave, however, Senior Centers and Adult Daycares are currently closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

COSA has purchased cooling fans and PECO also donated additional fans this afternoon. The fans will be distributed to seniors in need.
