Dr. Sharon Saline Presents on ADHD & Executive Functioning Skills

Distinguished Clinical Psychologist and Author Led Workshop on ADHD and Executive Functioning Skills at Benchmark School

MEDIA, PA (October 19, 2018) – An audience of more than 250 from all over the Delaware Valley filled Benchmark School’s A. Palmer West Performing Arts Center on October 9 for an informative presentation on ADHD and executive functioning skills by Dr. Sharon Saline, a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in Massachusetts. Dr. Saline, a noted expert in how ADHD, learning disabilities and mental health issues affect children, teens, and families, presented highlights from her newly-released book, What Your ADHD Child Wishes You Knew: Working Together to Empower Kids in School and Life.

Her workshop, "The ABCs of ADHD & Executive Functioning: Empowering Kids for Success in School and in Life," offered attendees a deeper understanding of ADHD and executive functioning skills and why they are critical to children’s cognitive and emotional development. Dr. Saline reviewed what executive functioning skills are (i.e. inhibition, regulate emotions, initiate tasks, flexibility, organization, time management, working memory, metacognition, etc.) as well as how they affect all types of learners—especially children with ADHD. She also offered concrete strategies for teachers and parents to use to build these skills at school and improve students’ academic performance and social relationships, such as her 5 C’s approach (self-control, compassion, collaboration, consistency and celebration).

“Sharon Saline blended knowledge of adolescents from working with students in schools and in her private practice with a sense of humor and a down-to-earth approach to parenting students with ADHD and executive skills weaknesses,” said Benchmark’s Head of Middle School Eleanor Gensemer. “Sharon’s video clips of children talking about their experiences resonated with the audience of parents and educators, and her 5 C’s parenting approach is something that parents can readily implement within their own families.”
