Media Forecast: Sunny, With A Chance Of Flip-Flops

Consider it an appetizer.

After what has seemed like unending days of cold weather and precipitation, there’s a taste of summer coming this weekend. We just have to get through the rain on Friday.

The National Weather Service is calling for temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s on Saturday, with abundant sunshine -- the kind of day that will have people breaking out the shorts and flip-flops and heading to the beach.

But like an appetizer before the main meal, Saturday’s beautiful weather is going to give way to a return of the chill and clouds on Sunday. Take heart, however: Memorial Day weekend is just five weeks away.

Here’s an expanded look at the weather for Friday, Saturday and Sunday and into early next week:

• Friday Showers likely, with thunderstorms also possible after 1 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 70. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
• Friday Night Patchy fog after 2 a.m. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 51.
• Saturday Patchy fog before 8 a.m. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 74.
• Saturday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 44.
• Sunday Mostly sunny, with a high near 63.
• Sunday Night Rain likely after 2 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 50. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.
• Monday Periods of rain. High near 62. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent.
