Mother of Providence Students Did not Miss a Beat!
The COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light how wonderful our faculty are and how prepared our school has been to adapt to these changes.
The community is strong at Mother of Providence Regional Catholic School (MPRCS) in Wallingford, PA. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought different struggles, challenges, and a re-setting of priorities but it has also brought to light what so many of our families already know; how wonderful our faculty are and how prepared our school has been to adapt to these changes.
When the announcement was made on Friday, March 13th that schools would be closed for two weeks, the teachers were prepared with activities and materials for the students to do from home via flexible learning starting that Monday. Once the announcement was made that PA schools would remain closed for the remainder of the school year, our teachers forged plans with their focus always on our students, continuing their education and bringing them hope and motivation.
The students continue their learning and are utilizing Google Meet or Zoom to learn new lessons and to interact with their teachers. Our specials subjects including Technology, Music, Art, Library, and PE continue to meet virtually and provide activities for the kids to complete. The Pre-Kindergarten students are continuing to learn their letters, work on math problems, and of course learn through play and imagination. The Pre-K teachers also use Zoom to teach and interact with their students, having “show and tell”, watch and learn about the life cycle of a butterfly and so much more.

Keeping our families connected via social media, virtual lunches, Spirit Week, Challenge Week, and the adventures of Flat Alpha (our school mascot) has helped us keep our school spirit strong. Our most recent event was a carline parade where parents and students drove through our traditional carline waving to the faculty and staff. Not only did everyone enjoy seeing each other but we also continue to “Make a Difference” by collecting homemade cards and gift cards for Bringing Hope Home, an organization that helps support families dealing with cancer. Our school families continue to possess a generous spirit during such a difficult time.
All schools have traditions and Mother of Providence is no exception. Many of our traditions fall during the months of May and June. We were just sending information out to our families about our Annual Race for Education when the schools were closed. This is an event that our students always look forward to so we decided to hold it virtually. Our families were encouraged to get out and walk, run, or bike in support of MPRCS. Our Annual May Procession has taken on a whole new look with teachers working to create a plan that would provide families the opportunity to honor Mary. Along with these great traditions we have also created a way to hold our annual Field Day activities, give virtual tours, and recognize our 8th Grade graduates.
