New Cannabis Associate Degree Programs at Local College
Pennsylvania Institute of Technology is launching two new programs this July in Cannabis Business and Cannabis Health Therapy

Media, PA - Pennsylvania Institute of Technology (P.I.T.) in Media, Pennsylvania, is proud to introduce two new associate degrees in Cannabis Business and Cannabis Health Therapy set to start July 2019. P.I.T. is one of the first colleges in the region offering degrees in the business of cannabis and cannabis health therapy. The focus of the Cannabis programs is to provide students with the opportunity to study either the healthcare applications or the business/entrepreneurial side of the medical marijuana industry.
In April 2016, the Pennsylvania governor signed medical marijuana legislation, legalizing the use of cannabis for specific medical uses. Pennsylvania joined New Jersey and Delaware, along with 30 other states and the District of Columbia, permitting the use of cannabis for medical purposes in the United States. While still considered a controlled substance by the federal government, a growing number of states have taken steps to de-criminalize cannabis for recreational purposes increasing the job opportunities for qualified individuals.
Individuals who want to wish to forge their professional path in the industry will find that P.I.T.’s curricula will provide a comprehensive educational foundation from which to launch their career in this dynamic new field. Dr. Kimberly Marucci, Dean of Academic Affairs, states that the burgeoning cannabis industry appears to be on the precipice of new, massive commercial growth with an untapped well of potential careers. In 2018, Pennsylvania employment in the medical cannabis business grew from 90 to 3,878 according to Forbes (McCarthy, 2019). Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Wolf (2019) reported that there are currently over 116,000 registered medical cannabis patients in Pennsylvania. “The career opportunities continue to expand in the four-state area around Delaware County, and Pennsylvania Institute of Technology continues to be at the forefront of medical education at the two-year level,” said Will Robinson, P.I.T.’s president.
