Trash Hazardous Waste In Media Sept. 17

If you have hazardous household materials that need to be disposed of, head to the Penn State Brandywine campus Sept. 17.

MEDIA, PA – Delaware County residents can get rid of hazardous household waste safely next month thanks to the county's hazardous household waste collection program.

Residents will be able to dispose of harsh materials on Sunday, Sept. 17 at the Penn State University Brandywine Campus, 25 Yearsley Mill Road, Media 19063 (use the main entrance at the traffic light on Route 352).

The collection event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The disposal events are open to Delaware County residents only. Businesses, industry, or institutions are not permitted to use the services.

Items/materials accepted are:

  • oil-based paint
  • oil-based sealants
  • paint thinner
  • gasoline
  • kerosene
  • gas/oil mixtures
  • heating/motor oil
  • lead acid batteries
  • rechargeable batteries
  • lithium batteries
  • button batteries
  • nickle-cadmium batteries
  • pool cleaners
  • rust/paint remover
  • antifreeze
  • lawn chemicals
  • cleaners/solvents
  • mercury thermostats and thermometers
  • fluorescent tubes

Items/materials not accepted are:

  • electronics
  • smoke detectors
  • latex paint
  • asbestos
  • explosives
  • gas or propane cylinders
  • PCBs
  • pressurized CFCs
  • tires
  • medical waste
  • alkaline batteries
