Women's March Planned For Saturday In Delaware County

MEDIA, PA — As women's rights activists plan to march in the nation's capital this weekend, a group of local residents is planning their own action in Media.

The group is marching in solidarity with the national Women's March happening in Washington, D.C., this Saturday for women's rights and in opposition to Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who is undergoing Senate confirmation hearings this week to replace the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Barrett's history of supporting state restrictions on abortion has spurred pro-choice advocates to mobilize against her nomination.

Following the election of Donald Trump, millions of people participated in The Women's March on January 21, 2017, a worldwide protest that marked the largest single-day protest in U.S. history. Since then, the protest has become an annual event in January, though Saturday's march is a unique occasion marked by Barrett's nomination.

Participants will gather at Media Elementary School, 120 E. Front Street at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Organizers are asking those who plan to attend to wear masks and social distance during the march.
