Dependable Drive-In Reopening With Coronavirus Related Changes

Allegheny County's only drive-in theater has made several alterations amid the coronavirus outbreak.

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - The Dependable Drive-In plans to reopen May 6 after making upgrades to ensure the safety of staff and patrons amid the coronavirus outbreak.

"It is our goal to bring some much needed entertainment to the community and give everyone a few hours to take their minds off all the craziness," a post on the drive-in's Facebook page stated. "But we need to do it safely."

The first feature at the four-screen complex will be "Trolls." Gates will open at 7 p.m.

Touch-less faucets and paper towel dispensers are being installed in restrooms. There also will be a new online food ordering system.

The drive-in also announced the following guidelines will be in place:

  • The driver of the vehicle must wear a mask when purchasing tickets.
  • Masks must be worn by anyone leaving their space at the theater for any reason.
  • Only one car can park between each set of poles, guaranteeing a safe social distance space of 12 feet between vehicles.
  • Food orders must be placed on the FanFood app. Payments will be accepted only via the app; no cash transactions will occur. Patrons will be notified via the app when they can pick up their food.
  • Only two people at a time will be permitted in the restrooms.
  • The restrooms will be closed intermittently for sanitizing.
  • The drive-in will be operating at a reduced capacity. When that capacity is reached, no other cars will be admitted.
  • Only single features will be shown at first. The admission price will be adjusted accordingly.
