Glass Products Being Banned From Moon Recylcing Bins
The restriction goes into effect soon. Are you prepared?

MOON TOWNSHIP, PA - If you haven’t already heard, you’ll no longer be able to put out glass products with recyclable trash beginning Jan. 1. Waste Management, which handles borough refuse collection, no longer will accept it.
Moon is one of nearly two dozen southwestern Pennsylvania communities affected by the change. And in case you were wondering, your bill will not be going down even though Waste Management will be collecting fewer of your materials.
Waste Management is among a growing number of haulers that is halting glass recycling. That’s largely because glass items frequently are contaminated and contaminated recycled items have had an increasingly difficult time finding a purchaser.

What should you do with your glass bottles and jars come 2019: Recylcebank offers these glass recycling alternatives:
- Contact your hauler and find out if there are any alternatives for glass recycling in your area.
- Go online and find a local drop-off center where you can bring your glass.
- Some grocery stores still have recycling machines in their vestibules.
- If you have no reasonable options for recycling your glass bottles, find a clever reuse for them around the house. Glass bottles and jars make attractive vessels for fresh flowers and don’t distract the eye.
