Moon Township Police Department One of Few Car Seat Inspection Stations
A number of local officers are trained as child safety seat technicians.
The Moon Township Police Department is one of the few official child safety seat inspection stations in the area.
Parents can call Chief Leo McCarthy at 412-262-5000 to make an appointment. Five officers in the department are trained as child safety seat technicians, who are able to inspect and install the seats for members of the public.
More than 90 percent of the seats we see are not installed correctly, according to McCarthy, and car accidents are the leading cause of death for children between the ages of 4 and 8.
In January, the department launched a child safety seat lending program for families in need of secure, properly installed seats.
