The most popular indoor sport in America is arguably handicapping and picking the winners in the NCAA men's basketball tournament that tips off tonight. The road to New Orleans might not intersect with your street, but filling out those brackets might be the next best thing to being there for the national championship game.

Are you participating in an office pool, a friendly wager with friends at school or church or a serious parlay between loyal alumni of various universities? From Cinderella to Sweet 16, from dark horse to miracle shots, this is a sporting—and wagering—event that for the next three weeks will pretty much consume the American psyche.

The FBI estimates that at least $2.5 billion changes hands each year in wagers on March Madness, according to the American Gaming Association.
