Bushkill Township Names New Police Chief

Bushkill Township has a new police chief.

Capt. Michael McLouth was promoted recently after the Board of Supervisors accepted the retirement of Police Chief Stanley J. Coopersmith.

Coopersmith, who served as police chief since September 2002, began his career with the police department in October 1972. He was promoted to assistant chief in 1985 and deputy chief in 1999.

The chief is relocating with his wife to North Carolina to enjoy retirement.

McLouth has served as an officer since 1997. He became a corporal in 1993 and the first captain in department history in 2008.

He's the fifth police chief in the history of the department, which was established in the 1950s. The police department has 12 full-time and five part-time police officers.

"It has truly been an honor working along Chief Coopersmith," McLouth said. "I look forward to my new role and building upon the established relationship between the police department and the community."
